Displaced kids flashlights

Launched on kickstarter in early 2023, UK social enterprise Ambessa Play debuted its battery free DIY flashlight featuring ten parts and 16 build steps. Displaced children were engaged in the design process as a reminder that all children possess untapped ideas and inventiveness capable of creating the new technologies we’ll need. 

Note: Training for ingenuity is essential as 65% of today’s primary school children are predicted to pursue careers in fields that don’t yet exist.

Impactful receipts tell all

Helping their loyal customers to be empowered with the information they need to make eco-conscious purchasing decisions, Swedish clothing brand ASKET now issues ‘ impact receipts.’ Designed to facilitate transparent consumption each receipt clearly itemizes the environmental cost of producing each garment ASKET sells. Traceable lifecycle manufacturing calculations consider the item’s environmentally related activities including: water consumption, CO2 emissions and energy use.

Read your underwear

In 240 of Morrisons supermarkets in the United Kingdom, sizing and fabric care tags in Nutmeg mens branded boxers and womens crop top bras will now carry a health related QR code. When scanned the code will provide direct access to detailed information regarding the early signs of breast and testicular cancer. In collaboration the National Health Service (NHS), labels will urge people to contact their doctors if symptoms are spotted.
