Lyme Disease or Lyme borreliasis, is an infectious disease caused by the spirochete bacteria of the Borrelia type. It is the most common disease spread by ticks in the Northern Hemishere. It is estimate to effect 329,000 people a year in the United States, according to the CDC. Lyme disease was diagnosed as a sepereate condition for the first time in 1975 in Old Lyme, Connecticut.
