E scooters causing serious accidents
ER doctors across the country are sounding warning bells as hospitals are experiencing a major uptick in devastating injuries involving children, teens and e-scooters. Many report that a lack of helmet use as a contributing factor in children as young as five years of age and suggest that varied regulations and lack of enforcement are issues. “The most concerning are head injuries along with broken bones” suggests Liane Fransblow, the trauma co-ordinator at the Montreal Children’s Injury Prevention Program.
First ever blind Barbie
Designed along with the American Foundation for the blind and tested with low vision children for enjoyable play, this Barbie claims to be as authentic as possible. Even packaging was part of the trial. This Barbie comes equipped with a red and white, functional sun glasses and a ‘distinctive eye gaze’. And, she’s wearing in easy to undress clothes—a pink satin t-shirt and a purple tulle skirt.
Constipation, laxatives and dementia
With 40% of people treating constipation with laxatives some scientists are seeing connections to brain-gut health. In their report on 500,000 participants who self-reported laxative use on most days in a month there was noted cases of dementia. This is apparently not a new finding but one that has not been talked about enough.

Heat related injuries on the rise
In the construction industry, the chance of injury is 14% higher when daily high temperatures reach 90-95 F compared to 65-70F. Injury chances were 20% in heat of 95-100 F. The effect of excessive hot weather was also shown to be greater on traumatic injuries and fractures, dislocations, contusions and lacerations.

Supporting women at work
Federally and in some provincial workplaces, employers must now provide barrier free access to menstrual products like pads or tampons. Sites must also have clean and sanitary washroom facilities with cleaning records. Regulators believe meeting women’s basic needs in this way will help improve equity, reduce stigma, and create healthier, more inclusive workplaces.
